COMPETITOR FILE / OFF-CYCLE 01 · v1.0.0

One AGI map. Two survival functions.

Situational Awareness proved that an AGI-infrastructure thesis can attract real capital and generate extraordinary gains. July 2026 proved the harder point: a thesis can remain plausible while leverage, crowding and liquidity break the portfolio carrying it.

One AGI causal map splits into a narrow leveraged glass path and a modular survival-first system of independent risk gates.
Decision in one sentence
DECISION / NO TRADE

Our intended edge is not “a better AGI prophecy.” It is a more inspectable chain from capability to price, a global challenger system, and a capital architecture designed to survive being early, crowded or partly wrong. That edge is designed—not yet proven.

01 / EVIDENCE TIMELINE

What the evidence actually says

01

The $13.7B snapshot

The SEC filing reports 42 entries with a $13.676bn information-table value. That is not the same thing as net asset value, net exposure or risk capital.

02

The infrastructure narrative

U.S. Global Investors framed the book as a bet on power, land, data centers and miners. The author also disclosed that he chairs HIVE, one of the praised holdings—useful context, not disqualification.

03

A larger but still incomplete snapshot

The next SEC filing reports 26 entries and a $20.242bn information-table value. It still cannot reveal ordinary short sales, cash, financing, option strikes, expiries or portfolio delta.

04

The survival test

Reuters reported a 67% July decline, while the fund remained up 80% for 2026 and removed leverage. Reports differ on how much of the public book was transferred or sold; we preserve that uncertainty.

02 / ARCHITECTURE

Same thesis, different machine

dimensionSituational AwarenessAGI Hedge Fund
Institutional state

Operating investment manager with real capital, counterparties, investor letters and regulatory filings.

Public research laboratory and simulator. No client capital, audited return or authorized production mandate.

Core map

AGI scaling drives compute, memory, power, land and data-center bottlenecks.

The same physical stack, extended through price expectations, owner cash, global markets and second-order effects.

Portfolio expression

Concentrated equities plus options, shorts, financing and private exposure that 13F cannot fully reconstruct.

A transparent 25-company long-only research baseline plus 3.5% SHV reserve; current baseline leverage is zero.

Geographic search

Observed public book was primarily a US-listed expression of the AGI buildout.

US is Experiment 00; China is the first matched challenger, followed by broader Asia, India, Ukraine and physical second-order markets.

Transparency

13F is delayed and incomplete; investor letters are private. Actual risk can differ radically from the visible snapshot.

Plans, sources, blockers and decisions are public and timestamped. This improves auditability, but also exposes ideas and has not yet earned alpha.

Failure mode

Leverage, crowded factor exposure and liquidity can force action before the long-run thesis resolves.

The immediate risk is different: mistaking an elegant public method and a backtest for a demonstrated investable edge.

03 / RESPECT THE ADVERSARY

What the competitor does better today

  1. 01

A strong capability-and-infrastructure thesis formed before it became broad market consensus.

  2. 02

Real access to prime brokerage, derivatives, private opportunities, counterparties and institutional capital.

  3. 03

Concentrated conviction and execution speed that a public research simulator cannot claim.

  4. 04

An observed return history—including an extreme adverse episode—from which risk architecture can actually learn.

04 / EDGE REGISTER

Our intended advantages—graded honestly

operational

Prospective public memory

Hypotheses, blockers and revisions are published before outcomes, reducing hindsight substitution.

in build

Architecture over prophecy

Capability, valuation, crowding, liquidity, financing and exit capacity must pass separate gates.

in build

Global Alpha vs Alpha

US holdings must compete against matched China and later regional challengers—not merely justify themselves.

governed

Survival before leverage

The research baseline remains unlevered; any future leverage needs an explicit liquidity, drawdown and financing mandate.

unproven

Compounding context

Structured evidence can improve model decisions over time. More data alone is not an edge; only out-of-sample decisions can prove it.

operational

No 13F copy-trading illusion

A delayed holdings table cannot recover financing, hedge delta or current exits, so it is evidence of exposures—not a replicable strategy.

05 / SYSTEM UPDATE

What enters our operating system

  1. 01

Add a quarterly competitor-exposure ledger that separates common shares, calls and puts and labels every 13F snapshot as delayed and incomplete.

  2. 02

Run a July 2026 survival replay: common-factor shock, volatility expansion, financing withdrawal, impact and forced-sale capacity.

  3. 03

Add crowding and exit-liquidity gates to every future production mandate before leverage or derivatives can be authorized.

  4. 04

Use Situational Awareness as a competitor and stress benchmark—not a portfolio to copy from delayed filings.
