The investment lesson

The model trailed QQQ by 2.41 percentage points of cumulative return. Its worst daily-close drawdown was -49.23%, versus -35.12% for QQQ. Exposure to important technology does not by itself produce superior risk-adjusted returns.

These are diversified parent-company stocks, not pure claims on AGI profits. Shared technology, capex and country risks mean eight names are not eight independent bets.

ALLOCATION / WHY THESE WEIGHTS?

Strong anchors. Limited new-issue risk.

The initial US platform block is 85%; the China block is 15%. We prefer multiple revenue channels and established distribution. These are research allocations, not fair-value estimates or a recommendation tailored to your finances.

*After IPO admission, the standing annual targets are 95% of the original seven-company targets plus 5% SpaceX. On IPO day itself we preserve the seven companies’ relative market weights, not reset them to these targets. Weights drift between trades; 5% is an entry target, not a continuously enforced cap.

GOOGL / Alphabet

25%: a core model developer with search, cloud and distribution. Its model capability can also disrupt its own search economics.

Model-development connection ↗

MSFT / Microsoft

25%: enterprise monetization and cloud distribution balance pure model-development risk. Capex intensity and partner dependence remain material.

Model-development connection ↗

AMZN / Amazon

20%: models, cloud and custom silicon support multiple routes to revenue. Retail dilutes direct model exposure, so the weight is below the two anchors.

Model-development connection ↗

META / Meta

15%: model development with consumer-scale distribution and advertising monetization; offset by heavy spending and less diversified revenue.

Model-development connection ↗

BABA / Alibaba

6%: Chinese model and cloud exposure. Country, governance and ADR/VIE risks constrain the allocation, not a claim that its technology is weaker.

Model-development connection ↗

TCEHY / Tencent

6%: models embedded in a large product ecosystem. This test uses the USD OTC ADR, not Hong Kong 0700; liquidity, ADR fees and corporate-action treatment can differ.

Model-development connection ↗

BIDU / Baidu

3%: model and application exposure with greater business concentration. The smallest legacy position keeps the combined China block at 15%.

Model-development connection ↗

SPCX / SpaceX

5% on admission: participation in xAI through a newly public, capital-intensive conglomerate. IPO volatility, valuation uncertainty and launch/satellite exposure argue against an anchor-sized weight.

Model-development connection ↗

JUNE 12, 2026 / SPACEX ENTERS

A 5% position. No extra money.

The SEC offering document identifies SPCX, its June 12 trade date and a $135 offering price. Our model does not assume access to that allocation. It buys at the recorded first closing price of $160.95, plus a modeled 0.50% transaction cost.

Sell across all seven holdings$1,582.45
Buy SpaceX$1,572.71
All entry-event costs$9.74

Each legacy holding is reduced proportionally, with a small additional reduction to fund costs. This avoids inventing a hindsight judgment about which stock was “the right one” to sell. SpaceX receives 5% of post-cost NAV: $31,454.19. The modeled purchase is 9.7714 fractional-share equivalents.

THE DECISION RECORD / MODELED, NOT EXECUTED

When did we rebalance—and why?

6 annual resets, plus IPO admission. Reset at the first US trading close of each new calendar year to control drift with limited turnover. Daily monitoring does not mean daily trading. No earnings, AI release or price crash has been retroactively declared a trading signal.

A thesis invalidation could justify a faster future review. This backtest contains no such rule because we have not reconstructed a point-in-time evidence ledger for 2020–2026. A future rule change needs a new policy version; it must not silently rewrite this experiment.

METHOD / WHAT THIS CAN AND CANNOT TELL US

Inspect the assumptions.

Return and execution model

$10,000 invested at the January 2, 2020 close. Fractional shares, no deposits, leverage or withdrawals. Day-to-day adjusted-close ratios approximate split- and distribution-adjusted total returns with automatic reinvestment. Rebalance only after that day’s return; a purchase earns returns from the following session.

Base one-way friction: 0.10% on each buy or sale; 0.50% for TCEHY and SPCX. QQQ and SPY are buy-and-hold with 0.10% entry cost. No terminal liquidation. Actual spreads may be wider. Fees paid: $50.37; their final wealth effect also includes forgone compounding.

Data and limitations

Yahoo Finance research data, in USD. Tencent is TCEHY (OTC ADR); Alibaba and Baidu use US ADRs. No Hong Kong close or missing currency conversion is spliced into USD prices. All active assets share 1704 complete US sessions; missing internal sessions fail the calculation rather than being filled with invented prices.

Vendor-adjusted closes can be revised and are not an independently audited corporate-action ledger. Taxes, withholding, ADR fees, custody, liquidity limits and market impact beyond the fixed friction assumptions are not separately modeled. ETF expenses are embedded in their price history.

Hindsight is still here

The 2026 company selection, current model connections and SpaceX admission are known after the fact. Earlier stock returns were not necessarily earned from AGI. Avoiding a future-price look-ahead in the arithmetic does not remove universe-selection bias or make this an investable 2020 forecast. No parameter search or best-weight optimization was performed.

What comes next?

Observe this policy without replacing it after disappointing results. Compare model adoption, monetization, free cash flow, capex and dilution with valuation; any changed allocation requires a dated rationale. The official research portfolio and its forward record remain separate.
